The people who operate the Cemetery have developed a listing of 55 people and groups of people who are buried at Oakwood. If you visit the cemetery be sure to stop by the office and get a copy of their tour guide. Or better yet, print this guide and save the cemetery the cost of the guide. The material which follows was developed using the guide available at the Cemetery Office. The pictures of markers are video still frames. The pictures were made from:"History of Alabama" by W.G. Brown-1900- and "Montgomery-An Illustrated History" by Wayne Flint and Sponsored by the Montgomery Chamber of Commerce in 1980.
Oakwood is a restful place. My friend Bob Richey and I have spent several lunch hours visiting the grounds. He is especially appreciative of the vegetation available in the cemetery and the relationships he has developed with people who have adopted gravesites to visit and care for.
If you want a special treat, accompany Mary Anne Neeley on one of the Landmarks Foundation sponsored tours of the cemetary.
